House of Commons Justice Committee recommendations on Divorce Fee rejected

The Government has rejected the recommendations of the House of Commons Justice Committee to rescind the fee increase for the issuing of a Divorce Petition. The fee increased to £550 on 21st March 2016. The Governmant stated that the fee for divorce is reasonable when considered against the objectives, generating an estimated £12 miilion per annum in additional fee income as a contribution to the savings required to make sure the courts and trubunals are properly funded, and that access to justice is protected.
